Standing Together For Our Students Futures

Will you help us avoid a strike?

Dear Park County Families and Community Members,

Please take action now to support Park County Educators to get over the finish line and avoid a strike.

Write school Board President Kim Bundgaard and Superintendent Joe Torrez here and let them know you want them to accept our offer to come back to the table before Monday October 14th and work with us in order to make sure our kids have the Park County they deserve.

Update:

On Thursday night, talks broke down as we requested the district discuss their finances and salaries with us. They continued to say that they “couldn’t until we finished the Professional Agreement” or “were not authorized to discuss it,” which are two phrases we have heard the district use for months in order to silence educator voice. Compensation is in our Professional Agreement, not separate, and critical to keeping high-quality educators in our district. We didn’t hear a commitment from them to work through this important issue. So the educators of SPEA decided to end the session, in the hopes that when we came back they would be willing to talk seriously about this core issue and we could finalize the details of the other contract provisions we have discussed. The evening was difficult, but as in all negotiations there will be difficult times, and it is up to everyone to work past these issues in order to have a productive conversation and avert a strike.

The Educators of SPEA have been clear since day one: we want to work together to work this out. We want to have the hard conversations with our district our community because we want to do what’s right by kids. But we cannot do it alone, we need our Board and Superintendent to be willing to have those conversations with us and with you too.

We are close, but still have a few details to work out in order to finish our contract and have a deal Park County students’ deserve. Here’s how you can help us get an agreement across the line:

  1. Write school Board President Kim Bundgaard and Superintendent Joe Torrez here and let them know you want them to accept our offer to come back to the table before Monday October 14th and work with us in order to make sure our kids have the Park County they deserve.
  2. Do you personally know President Bundgaard or Supt. Torrez? Pick up the phone and give them a call and ask them to come back and work with us before Monday.

We appreciate all your support,

The educators of the South Park Education Association
